Wicca

Hey guys. I'm not at all familiar with Wicca (I have attempted many spells, all of which failed. But I was given a lucky object. Or it's supposed to bring luck. Came from greece. Now, is there a way to tell if it really is lucky or if it's just a load of crap to go in the bin? Please remember that all spells I have attempted failed and I don't really know much about Wicca.

your best bet is to read up on it, that's how I got most of my knowladge on it...type in the search engine "what is wicca" and you will have alot of links that will help you understand it better...I don't know myself where the word wicca came from but in my eyes is means white and/or good magick. and your magick is only as strong as your beleife in it... with anything, the stronger you beleive the more chance you have of making it happen....but remember the three fold rule of any good magick...what ever you do comes back to you three times so if you harm any with it, you will be harmed three times more, if you do good with it then good will return to you three times more. Also, there are alot helpful subjects in the forum as I have found out myself.

good luck on your journy and blessed be :)

Wicca is a "modernised" version of witchcraft, formulated by Gerald Gardner around the 1950s. He first put it forward in a novel, as witchcraft was illegal at the time. After 1951 witchcraft became legal, and Gardner published the first book of Wicca called "Witchcraft Today". It was based on ancient beliefs.
So, although witchcraft is very old, Wicca is quite modern.

Brysing;

Cool story bro,
Needs more dinosaurs though.
What you have posted is your belief. Do not expect it to be the belief of everybody else.

Lonestar. Wicca was formulated by Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente in the 20th century. They based it on ancient traditional witchcraft. Read "Witchcraft Today" by Gerald Gardner. What I have written is provable fact! And it is certainly not my belief. I was never Wiccan.

Lonestar, Brysing is correct in saying that Wicca is a modern form of religious Witchcraft which was largely created by Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente during the 1940's and 1950's. Wicca drew from a number of different sources including British folk magic, ceremonial magic, and masonic rites. Although it was once thought that it might have been an ancient religion (largely based on the writings of Margaret Murray) this has largely been disproven by numerous academics (including Pagan ones) since that time. If you want to read an excellent book on the real history of Wicca I would suggest "Triumph of the Moon" by Professor Ronald Hutton.

Not that it matters whether Wicca is an ancient or a brand new religion. What matters is that it is a viable spiritual path which is bringing a lot of good to those that practice it.

Eruedrithe, I'd be happy to point you at some good books and websites to learn more about Wicca if you are interested. As has been mentioned, Wicca is a religion which happens to incorporate the practice of magic/witchcraft into what we do. But the most important part of our practices is that of honoring our Gods, not in doing spellwork.

To start with, here are some books that I would suggest.

"A Witch Alone" by Marian Green
"The Elements of Ritual" by Deborah Lipp
"Witchcrafting" by Phyllis Curott
"21st Century Wicca" by Jennifer Hunter
"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman
"When, Why...If" by Robin Wood
"Practical Pagan" by Dana Eilers
"Wicca; A Year and a Day" by Timothy Roderick

You guys just don't get it. You all seem to think I'm going to join in with this Wicca thing. I'm not. I don't have a clue and I don't wanna use up years of my life doing this revising stuff. Plus I wouldn't be able to cast spells anyway. I have tried spells that apparently didn't need anything.
But guess what. Didnt do anything. What's good about witch craft?
