Those who practice wicca usually refer to themselves as Wiccan.

Examine your tradition, see if it is right for you. In learning about it you will learn the common practices and spells.

You will also come to realize that magic isn't just about casting spells. Spells are a very minor part of it.

magick is a very important part to wicca, but to do them properly you should go through the wicca traditional of going through a a year and a day program. look at the book Wicca, a year and a day, and this will be a perfect calendar and time set for you. the year and day lets you study your religion and practice it first to see if it fits you, and if it doesnt and you can do the same with other religions.

first, for you willow, you do not need to be wiccan to do magic, so if that's all you want to do, look into any category in the spells section [avoiding the curses of course] and look for anything with the word 'basic' in the title. [sorry if i sounded mean, i didn't mean too] if you're serious about the craft, the year and a day which basically means you need to study for a year and day [starting from when you chose to become a witch] before you can join. it's just for you to determine if this is the right path for you. anything by Raymond Buckland is good since he was trained under Gerald Gardner [kinda need to know him]

Liz134, i give you the same advice, i am a solitary witch, i do have a coven, but over the years we have moved so we only meet at Beltane, Samhain and Yule. be warned a lot of booked labeled 'Occult' or 'New Age' can be published by nearly anyone, so take what most people say with a grain of salt. the reason i say look for Buckland is because he's the closest thing to an 'expert' on the craft today. use his work as a jumping off point.

really basic things however, the circle, you need to cast it correctly as it is the magical barrier between the two worlds, it is meant to protect you and if cast incorrectly, or not at all, it could end badly. on top of that is meditation and tools and purification and a bunch of other things to jump off from, but the biggest is opening and closing the circle. added point, do not step outside of the circle or you break the barrier, you can always cut a small stop in it, but try avoiding that. once the circle is cast, do not leave it until you are finished.

if you two want to message me, i'd be happy to help with whatever else.
