I am sure you can, but it takes lot of skill and practice with lucide dreaming, i would recomend meditation first because it help you get into a meditative state and help you relax your mind and body. That way dreams can come to you naturally. Or even create your own dreams.
I agree with Lithium. you don't have to have scents but they can help. when you meditate you actually exercise your ability to step in the same vibration frequency/ brain waves that lucid dreams usually occur in. it also helps to keep a journal of your dreams as soon as you wake up. for me, i noticed that I became more detailed in dream records the more i wrote it down so that may also help.
