Generally speaking, the meaning behind the words combined with what they stir in the one who is speaking them are all the power that comes of language.

On a different level, the vibration of specific tones is also believed to impact magic and spiritual practice.

If you can speak a foreign language fluently enough to feel comfortable in the way you speak it, and you feel that the symbolism of the phrases and words of that languages lend more to your magic, then by all means use that language. However, if you are not comfortable or familiar with that language it is likely better to stay within your native tongue.

As my mother tongue is French, should I translate the spells I could find in this site? What about those in a poetic form?
And what makes a spell effective?

Well forest, what makes a spell effective is energy.
If you wish your spell can be in french and poetic, or not.
The only difference is the one you perceive.
