It's difficult to distinguish what is valuable information and the pure bs. A mentor would help them to know what to believe and what not to, refer them to resources and answer questions along the way. We are, in a way, mentoring those on SoM by sharing our knowledge, but some enjoy one on one conversation. A mentor need not hold the person's hand and explain every single aspect of magick. They are merely a guide to direct the student in the right direction.
Everyone learns differently.
Some are born with knowledge, some derive it from study, and some acquire it only after a painful realization of their ignorance. But the knowledge being possessed, it comes to the same thing. Some study with a natural ease, some from a desire for advantages, and some by strenuous effort. But the achievement being made, it comes to the same thing. -Kung Fu Tzu (Confucius)
These people want to learn, and that shouldn't be discouraged. You and I taught ourselves, others desire guidance. There isn't anything wrong with either way.
