It would depend about how strong your mother's beliefs are. And if she is a kind and loving mother (like all mothers should be), she wouldn't hate you because your religion was different. Also, since Wicca is a religion, then I don't think your age would matter.

Something worth considering is the exploration if you're dabbling in magic and not fully committed to Wicca is the exploration of Hebrew and Gnostic mysticism.

These magical systems are difficult to get upset about, as they are generally the ancient origins of much of Christianity - albeit with all of the medieval dogma replaced by ancient dogma.

I would suggest talking to her about it without coming out and saying "I'm Wiccan". Bring up a conversation about Wicca and see how she responds. It should give you an idea of how she would react to know you are actually Wiccan.

If she talks openly and isn't judging, then you can bring up that you have shown interest, and see how she responds to that.

I started practicing wicca when i was 11 and instantly told my mom(who is catholic) and she said it was a phase and totaly freaked. she is just now getting used to the fact, and its been 2 years so you might want to teach her more about it before you tell her.(this is only my experiance, its probobly different for every one, but just keep in mid how she might react)
Blessed Be )O(

A month later, I'm somewhat shocked no one has said what I'm about to here...

You're mother will not hate you. She may be concerned. She may yell, ground or possibly even be completely ok with it. Judging by how you say you don't like to keep secrets from her, I can assume you have a pretty close relationship with her.

She will not hate you for your religion. Might not be pleased, but definitely won't hate you.

I hope the recent replies won't matter anymore and you've come to realize this yourself. ;)

I can't tell you how much of a similar situation I'm in. I've been practicing for about 2 years, yet I can't muster up the courage to mention a peep to my dad. He's a man with STRONG Christian morals. He believes, "If you don't believe in God, you're going to hell with Satan." Exciting, isn't it? :P

Now, mothers are usually more understanding, yet they can become just as confused. My mother, who was Catholic, passed away 16 years ago. I remember last year, I attended a Samhain ritual and we did a meditation to reconnect with loved ones. The images I saw were my mother playing with my Boston Terrier, Buttercup, who past away last July. She looked at me and smiled before Buttercup came over and wagged her tail. I felt the tears falling down my cheeks when I finally told her I was Wiccan. She continued smiling and said, "It's okay, sweetie. I still love you." We embraced tightly and I cried on her shoulders.

She still accepts me, but she can't tell me dad, since he's still alive. I'm going to be 18 soon, so I'm hoping that if he ever finds out, he will understand.

Now, age-wise, there is no specific age you need to be to practice Wicca. I know friends with children that are already practicing in their rituals. However, in our cases, that would be impossible. What I do in order to attend rituals is take the bus to each one. It's tedious, but it's what I always do. If my dad asks where I went, I tell him it's a gathering with friends, which is technically true. If your mother is that suspicious with that same excuse, don't panic. If you manage to find a group in your area, e-mail them and tell them your situation. They can surely help you. Other than that, keep doing your research and if you really want to wait until you're older, do so. It's all up to you.
