Star anise is used in Chinese cooking. I use it, and it is on sale at my local Chinese supermarket. But it is a herb, and as such could be used in magic, as would any herb!
Exactly. It is a common herb. I'm just trying to figure out why it has been attracting me for years. Anise seed doesn't attract me at all. But the star anise does.
What I'm really trying to figure out what the defining difference is between these two herbs, because everywhere I look, their use in magick is the same. Anise seed is more valuable medicinally than star anise. So obviously this is a spiritual pull.
Its been a mystery to me, that I am determined to figure out.
I was thinking about Star Anise today, and it reminded me of this post. I would like to add that you may be drawn to this herb because it corresponds to a path your life has taken recently. Has any significant changes gone on in your life to do with star anise lately, or what star anise represents?
I've been attracted to Star Anise since my daughter was two. Let me explain. Unlike many mothers who want a baby andn automatically feel emotionally connected to their children. I only felt a motherly responsibility. I was indifferent about having children, but my husband had baby fever! When my daughter was two, my husband was laid off, and I had to balance two jobs to keep us afloat. Being apart from my daughter for most of the day, made me appreciate her more and caused me to embrace my motherhood as a gift instead of just a responsibility over a life I brought into the world.
That's when I started being attracted to star anise and I have never stopped being attracted to it. I feel a pull to use it in ritual, but I don't know what it is drawing me to use it for.
Thats interesting, as star anise can specialize in youth protection- children. Of course, this is highly associated with motherhood when your family is in time of need. Maybe the star anise reminds you to always protect your young, and appreciate them. Perhaps thats why you have been attracted to it? Just a guess.
