Meditation and energy do not necessarily have anything to do with one another.
Though meditation can be used to examine and understand the energies that exist within you and without, it is also a tool through which you develop your own ability to concentrate, explore your thoughts, understand your emotions, and all other facets of yourself or any other such focus for your meditation.
This process can help open the doors to better visualization, as well as a better understanding of energy.
In exploring your energy, you need not necessarily summon it. It is within you already, is it not? I suggest using meditation to explore the "feel" of the energy that exists within you, and then try your exercises in energy to explore how that changes the sensations you have previously experienced.
In this, you will understand the nature of your own energetic flow through first hand discovery rather than through doing simply what you are told. It will also open you up to better sensing and discovering the energies that flow throughout everything.
