You can use many different things to mix them. Depending on how thick your potion is, you can stir it, mash it, bash it, grind it.

Any method you choose, really.

If you are working with water, you would want to boil the water, shut off the heat and then put the leaves/flowers/root into it and let it steep for about 5-10 min.
Roots should be grounded or chopped into small pieces. Blenders do this nicely.
Then strain the plant material out of the water by pouring it through cheesecloth or a coffee filter.

If you are working with vinegar, you combine all materials, then place it in a dark cool place for 3-7 days. Some take 2 weeks.
Then strain in a cheescloth or coffee filter.

If you are working with alcohol (only clear ones) you want to do the same as the vinegar. You can also do it in wine or saki.

Kitchen witches can make a meal into a magick spell. Which is why you should never eat or drink from a witch you do not trust! =)

This, and the lack of hygiene that some people possess, means that I do not accept food from people I do not know or who are not inspected by health inspectors.

I forgot to add:- If in your potion you are working with water, boil it first. This cleanses it and results in a improved potion. :)

as always, white rav3n knows what she's talking about.

basically a potion is a liquid spell. there are other clasifications like brews and baths, but they're all potions. not all potions can be drunk, since some have poinsonous ingredience. for these they are to be made, some you need to inhale the aroma, or add it to a bath, or use it as perfume. you could always just make a cup of tea and say a chant. thay would make it a potion. potions are simple, knowing the herbs is hard lol i've studied wicca/magic for almost 8 years now, and been making potions for 3, and i still don't know everything about herbs, only the ones i typically use.

Is there anything more to a potion then just adding ingredients? IS there like a ritual or enchanting process?

Well Sophfiy, that depends on what exactly you mean by "potion." Certainly there are mystical potions, but there are also teas and infusions which are much more mundane and yet may still qualify as a potion.

TheMerlin, to learn more about herbalism and potion-making I suggest Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (http://www.scribd.com/doc/77479823/Encyclopedia-of-Magical-Herbs-Scott-Cunning-Ham) and the Practical Handbook of Plant Alchemy (http://www.scribd.com/doc/15586469/M-M-JuniusPractical-Handbook-of-Plant-Alchemy).
