GLBT Coven

Now the issues of people confusing the coven with the idea of a dating service is a legitimate reason against the concept of the coven.
Even then, every coven concept here has its problems, but the point of having a coven, and an application process is to weed out those less desired aspects in members.

I think the idea deserves a chance, if it fails, it fails.

Any issues of such a coven are moot anyway, at least until new covens are allowed to be created. And that is our Admin's discretion only.

I would join. And I bet others would who don't feel like there is really a place for them here.

are we really here to talk about the kind of sexuality one another has? i dont think so. i also think that it is irrelevant to know such information, because it could have nothing to do with magick.

why would you single out a group of people like that, anyways? might as well make a coven for straight people.

that is actually a very cool idea. I am in a coven though.... If I wasn't i would SO join it.

I know this post is fairly old but I wanted to share my general opinion on the matter. First of all I agree that sexuality is not the primary factor or relevant to magic per say however I also know that many groups and covens in real life have glbt specific covens and groups, not because of their sexuality necessarily but to be around those that are familiar, like minded, etc. I believe Christopher Penczak has a book titled Gay Witchcraft that was published in 2003.

Also their are many traditions themselves that have branched glbt covens, such as The Dianic Wiccan Tradition, The term Faery Witch is derived from the GLBT community of witches and pagans, primary gay men, but supports the notion that Wicca, magic, and paganism does have a basis for such a kind of coven.

However to have such a coven on one of the largest pagan social and networking communities on the web, might be a controversial and debatable subject, especially because there are so many children that visit the site even younger than thirteen despite the age agreement when registering. Although I see many aspects to this topic it would be interesting to see if such a coven were ever to be created.

I'm a gay male witch and I most definitely would be interested. I have been looking for a fellow brother/sister coven to join.

Well, the need for separation in this matter is clear. Normally, in my years of experience we have always had to watch our backs around non GLBT type persons. Never know when somebody would be hiding in wait.

If I am around other like minded persons' then I don't have to have my defenses up all the time and I can concentrate on fine tuning my/our craft. I want to practice my craft without having my magic in particle defensive mood.

And I would like to be able to show my love openly and freely without somebody's mind thinking..... "OH, no another fag. "

Really interesting concept but it would need an experienced high priestess/ priest to pull it all together. My first question would be is there enough demand for it? Does the LGBT magic community feel the need to establish a coven based on sexual orientation?

There is certainly a precedent in the greater magical community. The Minoan Brotherhood is such a group, being for gay males only.

As for an on-line group, that would certainly be something I could see those in the GLBT community wanting to have a haven for themselves. But how would you insure that members actually are GLBT? That's always the rub.

Any such group would have to be done off of SOM as Pet has decided that for now there are not going to be any new covens created here.
