*sigh*
Astrology (birth charts, and the like) are calculations of the stars and planets, especially those nearest the sun (hence "sun sign") during the month, day, hour, and even up to the minute that you were born. Then they interpret these stars, planets, and positions based off of what "house" they fall into. "Zodiacs" are sun signs, it is NOT you. It is only a small part of a birth chart. Its all very complex. I've studied it but then I didn't really like it. I learned a great deal about the personalities of planets though, which was very useful.

Astrology was originally very popular for royalty. They would have birth charts created for them to foretell how their life would unfold. Yes it explains personality too. If you were concerned about a particular time in your life, they would focus on that area and go even more indepthly. There is even more they can do with it, I know an astrologist who gives me a heads up when certain planetary conditions are present.

Space effects us all. The sun pulls the earth. The moon pulls water. We are in the middle of all of this and we will surely be effected!

There is far more to it than the newspaper and online daily zodiac predictions. I wouldn't waste my time on such silly things.

The Birthday Book is a fantastic substitute for a professionally done birth chart. And a great way to realize how intricate astrology truly is. But if you all are that interested in your zodiacs, perhaps you should actually get a birth chart professionally done. You'll see the difference. They're not cheap! Usually about $100. If you want to save the money buy a good book on writing your own...you'll soon realize why they're so expensive!

But back to elements!

Planets and stars do not control what element you feel closest with. You should be connected to all elements but there will be one or two that most suits your personality. Like attracts like. Not only will you find it easier to relate to certain elements over others but you will be able to use them more naturally because your energy compliments it.

Because earth is obviously NOT an element you can relate to.

Air people are very spontaneous, and they have a difficult time sticking with one thing. They make up their minds and if you give them any time to think, they'll change their minds again! But they are also big thinkers and think sometimes too deeply into a situation than most people would. They love the sky day or night.

Water people are very relaxed and flexible. They get along with almost anyone. I don't know too many water based people. They can be very emotional! It is usually coupled with one of the other three. They like blues and greens.

Earth people can be stubborn, very stubborn. They don't like change, once they've "rooted" somewhere they don't want to move. But their soft spot is care, especially when people need nurturing. They like earth tones.

Fire people can have bad tempers. Most of their emotions are strong bad or good. They don't know the concept of subtlety. They like bright bold colors, especially red, yellow and orange.

This is examples of personality traits that would correspond with certain elements. Because these are the personalities of the elements! If you can look at one and know that you are NOT like that. Then it is an element that may not work well with you. Like attracts like. If you cannot relate to an element, then it will be more difficult for you to use it. You need to feel comfortable with what you use.

I've based these "personalities" over years of working with the elements. You can find out more traits by looking for books and online sites with element correspondences or by *gasp* observing them yourself!. Instead of looking at the correspondences as describing the elements see which ones you can relate to. Which ones describe you?

BUT never forget that every element needs each other, they all work together. So never ever boycott an element just because you two don't get along! Using all four elements together is a great way to keep in touch with the element(s) you aren't as close to.

In the name of poor butchered elementology I must say that your zodiac has nothing to do with your element! Sometimes it is just a coincidence that your element and your zodiac's element match. It is usually quite rare, though.

Find your element through meditation , and other things. Your element is the one or ones you feel most connected to and work well with.

Also, your element or elements are associated with your personality . This is not always the case, but look at what WhiteRav3n said before at which elements suit which personalities, it may help you.

You can have more than one element, but it is not as common.

I would also add that do not forget Spirit! Spirit is the 5th element and is usually forgotten.
