Non-magical advice: Cut out all dairy from your diet immediately, as well as anything heat-producing like spicy food or acidic food like orange juice. Warm liquids are okay - not very hot ones though. Keep your body cool - in Chinese medicine, sore throats are often a sign of heat invasion. Be still as much as you can, sleep.
Gargle with warm salt water as often as you like, even as much as every 15 minutes.
Drink decaffinated tea with lots of honey. There are over the counter medicinal teas in some grocery stores here in the United States. I like one called Throat Coat made by Traditional Medicinals. It has slippery elm herb in it, which is of great help. You can even find old fashioned slippery elm lozenges in some drug stores. I would search these out or send a family member to search them out for you. They help coat the throat.
If you can take Tylenol or ibuprofen, that might help too.
