Depends on your individual beliefs but, i think of staves as a larger wand that shows authority.

I recently acquired a staff from a walk around a park. It's exactly my height, and it's perfect. I love it. My question to others though becones this: How do you guys use your staffs? In Wicca the staff is hardly mentioned, whereas Traditional Witchcraft holds the staff to the level of importance the Wicca hold the Athame.

I have a stav that I made myself. It's carved out of wood from a fallen branch of a tree I often visted. It has nine rungs on it to represent the nine worlds. Each rung is decorated with some kind of item symbolic of the realm it signifies (ex: Muspellheim has a piece of decorative charocoal on it). I have inscribed runes down one side. I use it during projection, each rung serving as a kind of doorway or pathwalk leading me easier to that specific place. I use it during trance work, either as something to sway or something to create a rhythm with (i.e banging it on the ground). I use it as a means of channeling energy. Etc.

i really love staffs, have a few actually. there is only one i use, it's the third replacement. they find you! my first one was a sort of initiation, they act like trail markers to reflect your journey, the original walking stick.

The staff is a powerful symbol, a tool. For me, it represents the middle pillar, a sharp will, driving force, wisdom, leadership, illumination, the travler/ wanderer, etc.

it is a reccurent symbol in my path that is constantly unfolding in meaning.
