a hex and a curse is generally the same thing, its just a different name given to the same operation, the only thing different is its cousin the jinx, which affects the luck of the target and does not operate like how a hex would.
the same way some magickal creatures have different names according to the culture. same thing different names
i have to disagree with the two above, hexes and curses are two different things. A hex is an incantation which can affect the user for your benefit or just for their detrement. so a hex could be a spell for them to throw away their lives and fortune to be with you, hopelessly in love, or it could be a bad luck hex in which nothing goes their way and they always get the unluck situations, etc.
A curse is an encompassment of ill intentions which can cause harm to another person or some really bad stuff, which can include being plagued by spirits, attacked by poltergheists or demons, health problems, spasms in the body, etc.
In a nutshell a hex is sortof a childish version of harm on someone, a curse is a full on attack on someone with the illest of intentions.
Traditional or What you see in Scriptures:
This is something that can on and on like with the difference between black and white magic, where definitions have changed over time.
Now'a'days, both curses and hexes are seen in various forms of spells. You have hexes that use circle and consecrations, and you have curses that involve elaborate ritualistic practice.
They are typically the same thing, one lasting longer than the other along with the regularity of the effect.
- i.e curses can be of effect on and off depending on certain aspects of one's life
- i.e hexes include regular effect such as physical pain and sorts
