I've had a wand for nearly 20 years and hardly ever use it. My staff I use mostly for hiking.

I will point out that when you are trying to do magical work in a ritual circle in a 10 ft x 12 ft room which has furniture and things on shelves and the like, waving a staff around is generally contraindicated. And this is even more true if there are other persons present. Whacking your friends with a stick is a good way to lose friends.

which ever one is good according to your comfort zone, its the wood what you have to think about, some woods are specialized for certain works, ebony is quite a shock cause its one of the most powerful woods out there and it can be used for all workings.

It would depend greatly on why you are using it and how.

A wand, traditionally speaking, is measured by the length between the tip of your middle finger and elbow. Typically made of wood, they may also be made of crystal or metal tubing. Wands are used in both solitary and group rituals, and are aligned to male polarity. For this reason they are often use in Lunar celebrations. That said, sometimes they are specifically not used during new moons due to those being aligned to the Maiden. Some systems place the wand in the Air element, others place them in Fire. My preference is Air, given that Fire forges the sword/athame while Fire destroys wands.

Wands direct energy and do so very well. Staffs attract, absorb and concentrate energy and are used almost exclusively by Traditionalists in group rituals, typically used for Sabbat celebrations.

I hope this helped answer your question.

Bless,
Noe

would not recomend buying. it is far better to make them as it puts more of yourself into the wand or staff. and at least if you make it you know it has magical ablities whereas if you buy one some one could just be conning you.

I use a staff to cast the Circle in the trad method (compass-round, witchstead, mill or compass-ring). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv6nVYfgDC8

I use a wand for directing energy.

Both are made by myself, but of course, one can purchase them instead.

I feel a hand made wand is better because then it's more personal and you can feel it's raw power from the earth.
