Om (what you see meditation as on tv) comming from the buddhist/hindu religion, is a symbol that is used to channel meditation and bring you closer to Nirvana.
The closest approach to Brahman is that first sound, Om. Thus, this sacred symbol has become emblematic of Brahman just as images are emblematic of material objects.
The vibration produced by chanting Om in the physical universe corresponds to the original vibration that first arose at the time of creation. The sound of Om is also called Pranava, meaning that it sustains life and runs through Prana or breath.
So, no Om is not needed for meditation, it is simply a tool used in cerain religions.

There are two types of approaches in Chakra meditation. You can either imagine your energy being balanced in the chakra spots in your body, or you can see the colors linked with such spots.

Hint: many people feel the color approach is easier to practice.

best thing I can tell you is to learn, about yourself and about Wicca.
Meditation is always a great thing to start out with.
Research. Its good to look on the internet, but some prefer to go to book stores or a even a library and find some books. But if that doesn't work, The internet is just as good, you just have to be more careful on what you look at.

Its also good to get intouch with nature to start out with.
Learn about the weather, elements, Moon phases, etc.

The more you know the better. =)
