Shadow manipulation is exactly what it sounds like. The manipulation of shadows. I was posting lessons on it earlier in the Spirit Seers coven, but due to computer problems and other important matters I have been unable to continue.
Shadow manipulation is a type of magick that relies on the use of shadows. Contrary to seemingly popular belief, this is in no way a "dark" or "evil" magick. Actually, since Shadows require both light and darkness to exist, this art may require more balance between light and darkness then any other art. However, light is not always good and dark is not always evil, so that is just based on that common stereotype of light and darkness.
I hope we all know how shadow is cast. When light is directed to an object, the object will cast shadow on the other side. Hence "shadow manipulation" is either moving the object or creating an illusion.
No Longer, to assume everything you can not see and do not know is evil is ignorant. To assume something that does good things is good is also ignorant. Light is required for life, but take away the darkness and the light will be the death of life. Don't believe it, get a sun lamp and keep it on 24/7 over a plant. The plant will grow at first, but eventually it will die due to overexposure of UV rays. The same goes for humans, to much light is hazardous to our own health. In fact, if it is bright enough in your room for you to read the headline of a newspaper, it is considered to bright for you to get a good night of sleep. All things require balance; a world of darkness would not have life, but a world of light would not either.
That is a good point, Fame.Monster, and that is pretty much how Shadow Manipulation works. The physical way would be to move the object(s) to form the shadows as you want them to be. The more magickal way would be an illusion. However, dedicated shadow magick practitioners also believe that shadows have an energy of their own that forms as a balance between light and darkness. This energy is also used for healing, divining, shielding, and various other things.
Very well said, Ragnarok, even though we tend to disagree, I am objective enough ( well at least I try to be ) to compliment a good post whoever wrote it.
Your explanation of Shadow magick concept and belif of Practitioners of this particular branch is very accurate and well put. My compliments on that.
You are right not all light is good nor all evil is dark. In most of the cases it is so , but still one leaves enough space for another. So I will agree on this statement too.
The reason why we associate Light with good is because light is expansive and creative , and entities of Good ussualy appear in some sort of light enviorment representing significance of truth , while darkness is compressive and absorbtive ( tends to destruction of everything elese and evenetualy even itself ) and things that hide in it ma have last intentions, meaning they have to hide.
Even though The concept of good and evil is not as simple as confrontation of light and darkness , we still know even precisely what is good and what evil. The New age cheesy phylosophy "what is good for one man, is evil for another" is simply an easy and ignorant way out, a claim of people that do not know better , or perhaps do , but dont want You to know :)
Oh 'somthing' where to begin. Ok. In many of the 'creating belifs' it start with darknes to be the same as nothing. 'there was' and so on. And light was created. (out of nothing, or darknes. If you will) gett what I'm saying:)
(no critic or anything saying 'this is how it is' just sharing kind of thing)
darknes and light. Non of them are evile or good. But the influese in the use and so on is. Tho. Most "evile" tend to use dark. Sins it's more "usagebell" for it's purpose. And the oppesitt for "good"
some is also of the reason of where the "good/evil force was born from" (a reaction or somthing from the creation part or somthing I supose)
but what many forget. Is why these 'difrences' was 'aplaied'
over to shadow. You can also base your shadow magic. Or whatever in light or dark. And 'swich' it to the other. Or somthing in the midle. (shadow, or a brighter form. With another thing trown inn. And make it fogy kind of thing. That would be in some cases ilusion use)
ok. Bit of what I had at the moment. I supose I will post more later.
It is true that good and evil are matters of perspective. My favorite example, Americans Vs Terrorists. Americans in general are evil in the eyes of the terrorists because we worship God and live in the West. Pretty lousy reasons, but regardless of their reasons they think killing us will get them into Paradise. We see terrorists as evil because they generally live simply to kill as many people and destroy as much of us as possible regardless of whether or not they die in the process. Personally, I think that's a much better reason, but again our reasons are somewhat irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, the terrorists see themselves as good and it is their job to purge the world of evil. The Americans see themselves as good and believe they are the victims of evil.
To me, right now, so long as we know light and darkness are not inherently good nor evil, I'm not to concerned with what others believe is good or evil. Light and darkness are both required for health and life in general, both are required for our survival and to much of either could lead to destruction. Light and darkness are natural parts of the world and are only as good or evil as any other inanimate object or non-living thing.
