I circle is an opening between worlds. It not only protects you from harm but also keeps the energy you raise within it from escaping before you are ready to cast your magical working. Circles can be cast anywhere and with just energy. That is how you cast one. You project a steam of energy around you and what ever you wish to include in your circle. You can use anything you feel fits, such as a wand, sword, finger, powder, stone, etc. to add in your casting. Remember to release your circle after you are done with it and that when you are casting your magical working it needs to be released up through the cone of power and out into the universe.
can i use visualization?
like visualize the circle and the energy flowing within it?
if i can, then do i need to keep visualizing it until im dkne with it or does it stay there once i visualize it there?
Visualization is fine. Keeping a physical marker just helps to keep the circle in your mind, but I rarely cast a physical one. I always "feel" my circles and can tell when I (or something else, like my cat) is near the edge.
Short answer: No. I haven't cast a circle in ten years.
But... there are some types of workings - not beginner workings mind you - that would require some sort of protection like a cast circle. I don't do that kind of work any more, so i have little need for complex protective energy circles. I do have elaborate protections up for my personal space and my working space, but they are not Wiccan/Neo-Pagan style cast circles with the Elements/ Quarters/ Watchtowers/ athames, etc.
On a side note, i would also add that the more "experienced" an energyworker you become, you sort of create your own energetic protections without tons of conscious effort. I'm sure others can elaborate more eloquently on this.
