Steven there are many many books, blogs and vids on how to meditate, let me give you a small example of how I started.
First be comfortable!!! Sit with your eyes closed and listen to all the sounds around you. Try to hear as much as you can. Then slowly breath in and out and as the breath comes out of your nose put all your concentration on that. Let all the noise slowly dissapear. Just let the thoughts come and then let them go. Do this for even five minutes a day and each day add a couple more minutes till you are doing it for at least fifteen minutes twice a day.
Also practice visualisation. Close your eyes and try to 'see' things. First try and see colours. Then bring the colours over your hand. Work on this.
