JKspellz, most cultures (including Celtic, Roman, and Greek)were male-oriented because men were the dominant gender back then. All four religions have both male and female gods/goddesses, so saying the chance of Egypt (the only one of the four mentioned) seeing the moon as female is slim seems, to me, a bit inaccurate.
Well i mean there was Bast, the goddess of woman and the duality of women, and then there was like anubis's wife whose name i cant remember, the funky rainbow goddess of love whose name i also cant remember.
Then if you look to the greco roman goddesses you have selene, diana, venus, hera, aphrodite, athena, apollos sister, ummm yeah some of those people are like the same people but im just listing the ones i remember...
Then you go over to chinese and japanese cultures and they have there share of goddesses. Now i cant remember their names but i know there are some.
Egypt yes was heavily male oriented, but Greek and Rome were also male oriented. Now not so severly but you never saw a female emperor...an emperess....
And then continuing over you get to china and japan which were severly sexist.
So i think it is a little unfair to say that sex has anything to do with it
When I mentioned Egypt I was bringing up the first known mythology of the moon that I could find. I was also mentioning that there WAS a male moon god because, prior to finding that god, I didn't think there was one. What I am mentioning about moon's gender comes from history, what I believe about moon's gender comes from science. It is a rock. lol.
Some cheese has to age like wine. The older it gets the better it tastes...or at least i think thats right with wine...i dont drink
And we arent talking scintific opinions of it, if we were we wouldnt be on a site called spells of magic. We were talking about religious views and beliefs and maybe personal views and beliefs, on the coporeal form of our moon
That's right, son. I don't like cheese though so stinky cheese is worse then not stinky cheese for me.
I'm aware we're not talking scientific, but that doesn't mean I can't mention it among my posts. We're talking gods and goddesses. So far I've found many moon goddesses and only one moon god, but that one moon god dates back farther then the moon goddesses.
Personally I would view the moon as both male and female. The light side of the moon looks kinder and more gentle so it's the female side, the dark side may be considered scarier and more harsh or colder so it's the male side.
