Christian Witchcraft 101
Christian Witchcraft (CW) as a practice has been around since the inception of the Christian Faith and the death of Jesus Christ. For many followers of the path, CW looks very different from one practitioner to the next. There are different doctrinal forms of CW. Some maybe Catholic or non denominational. Some may practice only certain sacraments, while others use them all.
Christian witches have a myriad of practice methods. For the sake of this article, I will be only referring to my own practices. There's been a lot of confusion on what the practice actually is and what it is not. Id like to clear up somethings before moving on.
What Christian Witchcraft is not.
Christian Witchcraft is not Christian Wicca. The terms Christian Witchcraft, Christian Wicca or Christian Wiccan has been used interchangeably. This is simply not possible. Wicca is a beautiful tradition with their owns beliefs completely separate from Christianity. One being monotheistic and the other being polytheistic. The marrying of these terms have been simply out of misinformation and lack of knowledge for each path.
What Christian Witchcraft Is
Christian Witchcraft is the practice of blending witchcraft with the Christian Faith. The blending of the two consists of following the principals and teachings of Jesus Christ and using witchcraft to enhance devotion and worship. Prayer and spell work go hand in hand. One thing to note is that Christian witches do not use dark arts and consider themselves to use only white magic.
Christian witches believe in the Holy Trinity. This consists of The Father (God), The Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. They also believe the Holy Bible to be their sacred text, as this is the inspired word of God. The Bible is used for spell work, devotion, study and prayer.
Christian Spell Work
Christian spell work can be broken down into two different categories. Devotional and healing. Devotional spell work consists of writing spells that glorify God and bring you to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. Healing spell work is when you use spells to help others or yourself using the power of the Holy Spirit. These are both forms energy work and use similar items as non Christian Witchcraft at the alter.
The Alter
Christian witchcraft alters can vary in so many ways. Each practitioners alter will be different according to how they craft spells. The following is a basic list of items that may be used.
The Holy Bible
The Bible is the word of God and the manuscript of the Christian faith. It is the inspiration for most spell work within Christian witchcraft.
The Holy Cross
The Holy cross is what Jesus Christ was crucified on. We remember that as Holy and extremely powerful. He died on the cross for our sins, and it represents his sacrifice for us.
White Candles
The color white represents purity and Godly energy. Frequently during spell work, we use the image of a bright white light to focus our intensions and energy.
Image of Christ
Imagery or Icons are a way of putting a face with the name. We don't know what God truly looked like, but we have imagery of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints to help is with our spell work and devotion.
Incense
This is used for helping send our spell work intentions and our prayers to God. That symbolism is seen in Psalm 141:2: "Let my prayer be incense before you; my uplifted hands an evening offering."
Holy Water
Holy water can be used for the blessing of persons, places, objects, and other belongings, as well as a way to actively repel evil in one's life. It is also used to bless yourself before coming into the presence of God during devotion or spell work.
Bread and Wine
These are for taking Holy Communion for the celebration of the last supper. It is also used to represent the body and blood of Jesus during spell work. Luke 22: 19-20 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
This is in no means an exhaustive list of items that are at Christian witches alters. Others may include the Holy Rosary, statues, Icons of Saints and almost anything else that brings you closer to the Holy Spirit.
Practice What You Preach
Christian Witchcraft is just that. It is fully Christian and fully witchcraft. To often people use this path as a catch all for being a witch and practicing something completely different. If you choose to follow the path of a Christian Witch please understand what Christianity is and what the beliefs are before using that terminology.
Peace be with you
