Sprinkle the sugar into the water, and wait until most of it has sunk to the bottom of the glass. While you are waiting, chant,
''Hiccups, oh hiccups, please go away,
Never come back, and do not stay.''
Hold your breath, and take thirteen sips of the sugar water, swallowing each one, before you take another sip.
