How do spells work? Are they channeling your own energy and energy of universe with words,or a prayer to gods,or what? How do they work?

And,how to write simple,only word and hand spells? All I've found includes days,moon phases,ingridients,tells how to work with it,but I want to write simple spells. Can someone tell me how? Thanks.
