Hello everyone, I just stumbled upon this site at random, and decided to join. I will start by introducing myself as Warlock Xyra.

I personally prefer the term warlock, yeah I use it for myself. This is because of the history of the work warlock meaning pact breaker, referring to a pact between a divine being and humanity to not use magic, and my use of magic without any following of any gods at all. I find it a fitting and appropriate term.

So... Some practitioners may wonder... Without gods to work with, do you honor anyone? No... I don't use shrines, I don't hold nature as sacred, and I don't see even death as supernatural.

Instead, I see magic as another means to understand the world around me, by understanding the laws of the universe, (math, physics, chemistry, similar things) one can learn to take advantage of them. Meaning I neglect herbs for an understanding of biology and chemistry, I neglect crystals, and prayer, for technology. In fact magic can downright border science as far as i'm concerned. Sometimes these things so closely intermingle, it's damn hard to tell what most people would call it. At times it means I build my own tools, and utilize energies like electricity, other times it means I do very similar things, record my results, and get repeatable results with a documented series of steps for a documented result. Usually it means a lot of crazy ideas, and a lot of failures in my experiments. Still, after 14 years of practice, it's been a nice learning experience.
