I have different ways every time when I meditate. These are some that I have tried.
1. The sitting position: this one is where you basically sit on the ground and cross your legs. You can also do this in a chair if you have to, and if you find that you can't cross your legs while in the chair, then you can sit just like you normally would in a chair. When I do this I have my palms up and make an ok sign with them, making the O with my thumb and either your index or the next one over.
2. The laying down technique #1: this one you can use if you are getting ready to enter the astral plane. You just lie down on your back and spread your feet out to shoulder length distance and put your hands next to them, palms up. When you do this one, and are getting ready to enter the astral plane, you want to have your eyes closed, otherwise it doesn't matter. This also works for people who like to lay down instead of sit up or have a bad back and can't sit up for to long.
3. The laying down technique #2: this is just like the first laying down one, but instead you open and close your hands into fists. ( Note: This technique is not to be used if you are getting ready to enter the astral plane as you are not supposed to move when doing astral projection!) With this technique, when you breathe you breathe in through your nose and close your hands to a fist, palms up of course, and breathe out through your mouth and open your hands.
A lot of people wonder and ask if you have to be in a wiry room. Yes you do. Or, if you are outside you have to find a nice place with as little noise as possible.
Also, if you are like me and can't really do total silence, no noise at all, there are CDs that you can buy at a store that has some that they sell that have sounds like waves crashing and rain falling and stuff. There are also CDs with just soft music like piano music that work well also. If you are out in nature then you can listen to nature also, like listening to birds sing or the wind blowing. You can also do these with your eyes open or closed, which ever you prefer, but if you are getting ready to astral project, then you'll want to have your eyes closed. I myself mostly meditate all the time with my eyes closed, but that's up to you if you want to or not.
I hope you rate this fairly and feel free to ask questions. This is my first article I ever made, and I typed it all on my smartphone. If you happen to have questions you can post it in the comments or send me a mail message.
