I can suggest another unetherel meaning and cause
that is seemingly magical, in a sense:

When we look down, our necks at Cervical spinal bone #7 or #8, bend
and sometimes pinch the nerve and circulations innervating the hand. When this occurs, numbness or tingling, as you describe,
can occur.
