You're calling on the elements for protection, not a deity. If you're hoping to use a protection to contact a deity, that's not what protections are for. If you wish to connect with a deity but are afraid you'll be harmed by them, don't worry, you'll be fine. I've worked with numerous deities and the only bad experience I ever had was the result of me being argumentative. If a deity doesn't wish to work with you, they ignore you, they don't attack you. I would research the deity in question so you know what they like and how they normally act, then set up an altar [it doesn't have to be permanent if you're still in the broom closet] give them an offering, introduce yourself as you would to a new friend or teacher, then meditate and listen for a response. This could take several days, and it might not be verbal, could be a feeling or something that represents them [if they're associated with black dogs or bees and suddenly that's all you see, you hear people talking about them, there associated with a fragrance and you suddenly smell it, so on]
Yes, change ''me'' to their name and visualize the person being protected. If you can include them in the spell, it would work better. You could also take an item they wear daily [necklace, ring, hairclip, even a backpack or jacket] charge the item with protection and say the chant to bless it. They would then wear the item for protection.
